Job Summary

The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute of Transformative Medicine (EITM) is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented leader to serve as a Senior Program Manager. This leader works directly with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Science and Innovation Officer (CSiO) to develop and establish an overarching framework that will enable the evaluation and standardization of candidate and qualified biomarkers used to monitor and study short and long-term effects of environmental exposures, including respiratory illnesses, autoimmune disorders, and cancers. 

 

Program Management

  • Work with CEO/CSiO to build and sustain an iterative framework to ensure that technologies, databases, and analytics in areas of uncertain readiness levels can be deployed robustly and reliably at scale.  Areas of uncertain readiness levels include:
  1. Fit-for-purpose biospecimen acquisition methods and workflows to preserve/protect sample integrity or establish verification criteria for quality assessment/quality control of handling under diverse conditions to enable longitudinal sampling
  1. Measurement devices, sensors, or molecular profiling methods and workflows that can be used in diverse conditions to enable longitudinal characterization of environment and changes in biological state of study participants
  1. Methods for clinical, phenotypic, exposure, or epidemiological data aggregation, curation, linkage, and integration to enable downstream analytical platforms methods to perform iterative assessment of biological state of study participants and disease risk
  • Perform preliminary analysis of interim results generated by pilot projects in areas of uncertain readiness level as needed
  • Assemble results and generate reports to share with key leadership internally and externally

 

Strategic Relationship Development

  • Drives external collaborations (industrial and academic) to ensure the integration of novel technology that better enables the development of high-impact oncology projects for the institute’s faculty.
  • Develops and maintains collaborations with new and existing partners (industrial and academic) that are part of pilot projects in areas of uncertain readiness level. These could include developers of new platform technologies, bioinformatics, and clinical IT/informatics.
  • Oversees internal and external meetings to ensure performance obligations and milestones are met.

 

Institutional Program Coordination

  • Facilitates actions requested by scientific faculty and leadership team to develop and sustain research collaborations with external partners for the program.
  • Fosters a functional matrix organization with project managers of Institute collaborations and ensure smooth operations with shared resources.

 

Qualifications

  • Project management experience in biomedical and/or healthcare fields.
  • A trans-disciplinary science background and an advanced degree in biological, physical or health sciences, and experience working in a fast-paced matrix organization (academic and/or industrial settings). 
  • Experience communicating and driving relationships with government agencies, biomedical device partners, and technical representatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage virtual teams and complex projects.
  • Exceptional analytical, presentation, and written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to interpret, analyze, and apply pertinent policies, procedures, regulations, and requirements.
  • Excellent managerial, interpersonal, networking, and conflict resolution skills, able to motivate others to action by articulating visions and strategies.
  • Experience in developing and/or managing budgets.
  • Valid U.S. passport, able to travel internationally and domestically without restrictions.

 

Additional Information

 

Minimum Education: Master's degree, or combined experience/education in business development in life, regulatory, or health sciences as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience: 5 years of demonstrated experience managing healthcare or life sciences projects

Minimum Field of Expertise: 5 years directly related industry experience. Proven experience in business and technology development, consulting, alliance, and/or management roles.

 

Preferred Education: Doctorate in related field of study (bioinformatics, epidemiology, life sciences, biotechnology, health sciences)

Preferred Experience: 7+ years of demonstrated experience managing multistakeholder healthcare or life sciences projects.

Preferred Field of Expertise: 7+ years directly related academic/industry experience. Proven experience in business and technology development, consulting, alliance, and/or management roles.

 

Salary$158,793-$175,235
